Enhancing Neurology Care

Community Regional Medical Center (CRMC) in Fresno, CA, is operated by Community Medical Centers, the largest healthcare provider and private employer in the region. In addition to its acute hospital facilities, CRMC manages several long-term care, outpatient, and other healthcare facilities, as well as a physician residency program.

CRMC is home to the only comprehensive burn and Level 1 trauma center in the region. CRMC also offers a Level III NICU and is the region’s designated high-risk birthing center – allowing mothers to stay with their critically ill babies. The Central California Neuroscience Institute at CRMC offers one of the most advanced neuroscience centers in the state. CRMC is a training site for the UCSF Fresno Medical Education Program in affiliation with UCSF School of Medicine, and the center has earned "Center of Excellence" status.

Partnering with SOC Telemed

As CRMC built its presence in the region for neurology care, its stroke program needed to be augmented in order to provide accelerated treatment. Two critical components prompted CRMC to partner with SOC Telemed (SOC) for emergency neurology care via telemedicine:

  1. greater availability of qualified neurologists,
  2. relief for the medical center’s on-staff neurologists who were spread thin due to the demand.

SOC was the first private provider of acute clinical telemedicine services to earn The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval in 2006 as an accredited ambulatory care provider, and has maintained that accreditation every year since.
